New WCMP Comic on Toxoplasmosis

The Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WCMP) have recently added a fourth comic to their successful range. Toxoplasmosis: Unlocking the secrets of a mysterious parasite highlights research on the Toxoplasma parasite and features the work of the Sheiner Group.
The new comic was drawn by Edinburgh-based comic artist Edward Ross, and co-written with Dr Jamie Hall - a former PhD student at the WCMP. It examines the lifecycle and development of Toxoplasma, how it evades the immune system, and also considers the possibility that toxoplasmosis can affect the behaviour of its mammal hosts. Dr Lilach Sheiner was the chief scientific adviser for the comic.
Comics are an important component of the WCMP’s public engagement activities, and appeal to a wide range of audiences. The greatly simplified language and striking images help to make the research carried out at the Centre more accessible to non-specialists.
Dr Lilach Sheiner, Dr Vickie Curtis and Edward Ross were interviewed in the Herald about the comic on 22 May.
