The School of Infection & Immunity's Sir Graeme Davies Building recently retained its Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) Gold certification for 2024.
Developed by Sustainable UCL, LEAF is a programme designed to improve the sustainability and efficiency of laboratories by providing actions that lab users can take to save plastics, water, energy and other resources.
By taking part in the programme, laboratories reduce their carbon emissions and create an environment that supports sustainability and research quality.
Laboratories are awarded either Bronze, Silver, or Gold level depending on the sustainability actions they take - and our SGDB was acknowledged for fulfilling the necessary criteria (see image, below) for Gold status.
As the highest level attainable utilising the LEAF framework, we are delighted to have been able to renew our status after first achieving this benchmark in 2023.
Sii ECO Group Committee member Dr Madeleine Cunningham said: “We are delighted to be recognised again with a Gold LEAF award for the SGDB.
"Thanks to everyone for their contributions towards making this possible and we hope that we can continue to make improvements and maintain our Gold LEAF in future years.
"Now that funders are requiring LEAF accreditation for the labs, we are delighted that we in SGDB are well ahead of the game.”
