First aid box contents
Each first-aid box should contain a sufficient quantity of suitable materials for its location and nothing else.
As a minimum guideline first-aid boxes in the building should contain the following items:
- one guidance card or leaflet;
- 20 individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings (assorted sizes) appropriate to the work environment.
- 2 sterile eye pads, with attachment;
- 6 individually wrapped triangular bandages;
- 6 safety pins;
- 6 medium sized indivudally wrapped sterile unmedicated wound dressings (approx 10cm x 8cm);
- 2 large sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings (approx 13cm x 9cm);
- 3 extra large sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings (approx 28cm x 17.5cm)
- disposable gloves.
Where mains tap water is not readily available for eye irrigation, sterile water or sterile normal saline (0.9%) in sealed disposable containers should be provided. Eye baths/eye cups/refillable containers should not be used for eye irrigation.
Travelling first-aid Kits
These should contain the following items:
- Guidance card
- Six individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings;
- One large unmedicated dressing;
- Two triangular bandages;
- Two safety pins;
- Individually wrapped moist cleansing wipes
