The Highways Agency website contains a range of information about the proposals for the improvements to the roads around Stonehenge, and includes a range of useful background information to the schemes. This page focuses on an earlier scheme which included a road tunnel beneath the site. Many conservation organisations objected to the proposal as lacking sufficient long-term vision, and the project was eventually cancelled by the government. Smaller-scale redevelopment of the roads around Stonehenge is now part of the current visitor centre plans.
