Research interests

My research is mainly in moral and political philosophy. I'm interested in the axiomatic foundations of moral theory, the measurement and weighing of moral values, and the interaction between norms of rationality and norms of morality. I'm also interested in the ethics of aid and development, and particularly in the conflict between the well-meaning motives that drive aid policy and the imperialist character that those policies often present.

Currently I'm working on axiomatizing (a version of) deontology, some puzzles in moral aggregation, the politics of tolerance, the ethics of risk imposition, the ethics of philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, and future bias.
