Research interests
My primary research interests are in virtue ethics and moral psychology. Because emotions play such a significant role in our experiences of moral injury and repair, I spend a good deal of time investigating emotions like anger, guilt, and shame and activities such as forgiving and reconciling. Some of my work on character focuses on particular traits, including ambition, meekness, cheerfulness, and grace. Other work looks at the development of character-based normative ethical theories. Intertwined with the abovementioned projects is an ongoing engagement with Scottish Enlightenment thinkers, especially Francis Hutcheson, David Hume, and Adam Smith.
