Workshops
There will be three one-day workshops on the three named themes:
- Monday 20 September 2010:
men’s bodies (to encompass issues of sexuality and health) - to be held in Glasgow
- Friday 14 January 2011: men and the family - to be held in Edinburgh
- Thurs 26-Fri 27 May 2011: violent crime and disorder - to be held in Glasgow
The workshops will establish a network of researchers working on Scottish masculinity in order to facilitate the sharing of research findings and to enhance the potential for interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research projects. This network will continue to operate electronically via an online discussion forum and bulletin board. The final day of the workshops will be used to sketch grant applications designed to continue the activities of the network on the basis of the strategy for research agreed upon over the course of the workshops and summary discussion. The findings of the workshops will also be used as a knowledge resource for future grant applications for larger projects on the history of masculinity in Scotland. In the longer term we intend to build on the key themes of these workshops to establish a cluster of interdisciplinary expertise by winning funds to support a group of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers, in the first instance by applying to the Economic and Social Research Council’s Research Grant Scheme for a large grant to support work on male violence in Scotland, c.1650 to the present.
