BLIADHNA BHOGAIDH GHÀIDHLIG A’ FOSGLADH DO THAGRAIDHEAN
As the University of Glasgow announces official start dates for the academic year 20/21, applications are being welcomed for a new programme, Gaelic with Immersion Cert HE.
Mar a tha Oilthigh Ghlaschu ag ainmeachadh cinn-latha tòiseachaidh oifigeil airson na bliadhna acadaimigeach 20/21, thathar a’ cur fàilte air tagraidhean don phrògram ùr, Gàidhlig le Bogadh - Teisteanas Foghlaim Àrd-Ìre (Cert HE).
This innovative course was announced in October 2019 following an award from the Scottish Funding Council to support a three-year pilot and is available to existing undergraduate students and external candidates as a Cert HE.
Kathleen Reddy, Lecturer on the Gaelic with Immersion programme, said: “I am really looking forward to welcoming students on to this exciting new course. Despite the challenging circumstances we currently face, we are working hard with colleagues across the University to ensure our delivery is not only safe, but also remains engaging and effective in supporting students to achieve higher levels of fluency in Gaelic.”
In light of the ongoing Coronovirus (COVID-19) situation, a blended approach to learning and teaching will be adopted consisting of both remote and face-to-face delivery.
More detailed information on course delivery will be confirmed over the summer period and based on Government and central University guidance appropriate to social distancing measures.
A native of Cape Breton in Canada, Kathleen has a wealth of both teaching and research experience. A qualified secondary teacher, Kathleen has taught Gaelic in schools in Uist and Inverness as well as, St. Francis Xavier University and more recently, at the University of Glasgow whilst researching Catholic traditions in Gaelic communities in the Western Isles."
Applicants interested in this programme on either a full-time or part-time basis, have until 19 June to submit a direct application and will be invited to participate in an online interview on 26 June 2020.
In October 2019, the SFC awarded the University of Glasgow £455,000 to establish a new Gaelic language immersion year to provide an intensive language learning experience for students and adult learners.

A dh’aindeoin nan suidheachaidhean dùbhlanach ris a bheil sinn a’ cothachadh gu làithreach, tha sinn ag obair cruaidh còmhla ri co-obraichean air feadh an Oilthighe gus a dhèanamh cinnteach gu bheil ar lìbhrigeadh chan ann a-mhàin sàbhailte, ach a’ fuireach tarraingeach agus èifeachdach, ann a bhith a’ cur taic ri oileanaich gu ìrean nas àirde de fhileantachd ann an Gàidhlig a choileanadh.”
Mar thoradh air suidheachadh leantainneach a’ Choròna-bhìorais (COVID-19), thèid modh-obrach co-mheasgaichte a thaobh ionnsachadh agus teagasg a leantainn, anns am bi an dà chuid lìbhrigeadh air astar agus aghaidh ri aghaidh.
Thèid barrachd mion-fhiosrachaidh mu lìbhrigeadh a’ chùrsa a dhaingneachadh thar mhìosan an t-samhraidh, stèidhichte air prìomh stiuireadh an Riaghaltais agus an Oilthighe, a bhios iomchaidh do cheumannan astarachaidh sòisealta.
