Investigating the nature and timing of the earliest human occupation of North America using a novel integration of biogeochemistry and micromorphology.
Wednesday 10 March at 4pm
How, when and why did people first arrive and settle in the Americas? Fossil faeces, or coprolites, are key to addressing this question, in a landscape where well preserved and easily datable sites are scarce. A new lipid biomarker approach in combination with high resolution stratigraphic analysis and novel compound-specific radiocarbon dating has provided new and exciting data on both the timing of early occupation, and broader questions concerning how earlier settlers adapted to diverse, seasonal environments.
