Thinking about doing a PhD in Archaeology and want support in producing a proposal that will be competitive for funding?
Archaeology at Glasgow is inviting applications for a PhD Proposal Competition and Workshop. We are looking for candidates with excellent first degrees and cutting edge research ideas, who will enrich and complement Glasgow’s vibrant and diverse research community.
Our fieldwork and research projects cover periods from the Mesolithic to the Modern era and extend from the North Atlantic to Iraq, with foci in Scotland and the wider UK, Medieval Europe, the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. We approach the past and its present from a range of theoretical and thematic perspectives, with research expertise in digital archaeology, landscape archaeology, engagement, and material culture. Most of all, we like to be challenged by our research students!
The workshop will be held on 30 October 2019 at 12noon in the Gannochy Room, Wolfson Medical School Building, University of Glasgow.
Stipends to support travel for the 10 best applicants will be provided.
At Glasgow, candidates will be able to spend time discussing their proposal with their prospective supervisor(s) and receive feedback from a wider group of academic staff on a short presentation.
The person making the best presentation will receive funding for a second trip to Glasgow to develop their AHRC/ESRC application.
To apply, please fill out this online form.
Deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 18 October 2019.
Invitations to Glasgow will be issued to the successful candidates by 23 October 2019.
We suggest that you get in touch with your proposed Glasgow supervisor prior to submitting an application - contact information
