Thathar a’ cur fàilte air tagraidhean don Teisteanas HE Gàidhlig le Bogadh 2021-22 aig Oilthigh Ghlaschu, a’ leantainn air bliadhna tòiseachaidh shoirbheachail ann an 2020-21.

Thòisich an cùrsa ùr-ghnàthach seo san t-Sultain 2020 a dh’aindeoin nan dùbhlain an lùib galar lèir-sgaoilte COVID-19, a’ tarraing ùidh bho 12 oileanach.

Thuirt an t-Òraidiche, Kathleen Reddy: “Tha sinn air leth toilichte le mar a tha a’ chiad bhliadhna air a dhol. Chaidh againn air na h-àiteachan uile air a’ chùrsa a lìonadh, agus tha na h-oileanaich air a bhith ag obair anabarrach cruaidh air gach eileamaid den chùrsa gus am fileantachd sa Ghàidhlig a leasachadh agus a mheudachadh. Tha e air a bhith na chùis aoibhneis dhuinn an t-adhartas a rinn iad fhaicinn.”

Chaidh am prògram Gàidhlig le Bogadh ainmeachadh an toiseach san Dàmhair 2019, a’ leantainn air duais bho Chomhairle Maoineachaidh na h-Alba airson taic a chur ri pìleat trì bliadhna, agus tha e fosgailte do dh’oileanaich fo-cheum a tha an làthair agus do thagraichean bhon taobh a-muigh, mar Theisteanas HE.

Tha taobh air leth àraidh den phrògram a’ gabhail a-steach cheanglaichean gu coimhearsnachdan Gàidhlig tro chom-pàirteachasan le Comhairle nan Leabhraichean agus Ceòlas Uibhist.

Thuirt Gillebrìde Mac ’Ille Mhaoil, Ceannard Ceiltis is Gàidhlig: “Tha na com-pàirteachasan againn nam pàirt bhunaiteach den chùrsa seo, oir tha iad a’ toirt seachad cothrom luachmhor gus eòlas a chur air coimhearsnachdan le Gàidhlig, gu h-àraidh coimhearsnachdan traidiseanta a bhios a’ toirt nan oileanach de bheartas cànain. Tha sinn gu sònraichte toilichte gu bheil sinn, tro chleachdadh air teicneòlasan didseatach, comasach air an taobh shònraichte seo den chùrsa  a chumail suas a dh’aindeoin cuingealachaidhean a’ ghalair lèir-sgaoilte.”

A’ labhairt mu a h-eòlas fhèin mar aon de na ciad chom-pàirtichean air a’ chùrsa Teisteanas HE Gàidhlig le Bogadh, thuirt Fine Mayer: “Tha an cùrsa seo air cothroman ionnsachaidh mìorbhaileach a thoirt dhomh an dà chuid taobh a-staigh agus taobh a-muigh an t-seòmair-teagaisg. Tha na tidsearan againn anabarrach dìcheallach agus fiosraichte agus cha b’ urrainn dhomh a bhith air suidheachadh bogaidh Gàidhlig nas mionaidiche iarraidh. Tha mo sgilean cànain air a dhol am feabhas gu mòr, agus tha mi a-nis nam phàirt de choimhearsnachd nach gabh ionadachadh agus air caraidean fad-beatha a dhèanamh. Cha b’ urrainn dhomh barrachd molaidh a dhèanamh air a’ chùrsa seo!”

Tha an cùrsa ag amas air taic a thoirt do luchd-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig ann an leasachadh sgilean adhartach Gàidhlig, a thuilleadh air eòlas agus tuigse dhomhainn do chànan, do chultar agus do litreachas na Gàidhlig tro bhogadh Gàidhlig aig ìre adhartach. Tha am prògram fìor fhreagarrach do luchd-ionnsachaidh inbheach agus proifeiseantaich foghlaim a tha airson am fileantachd sa Ghàidhlig a leasachadh.

Tha aig tagraichean le ùidh sa phrògram seo, ged a b’ ann gu làn-thìde no pàirt-thìde ann an 2021-22, gu 30 Giblean airson tagradh dìreach a chur a-steach agus gheibh sibh cuireadh com-pàirteachadh ann an agallamh air-loidhne sa Chèitean 2021.

Ann an 2021-22, thèid am prògram a lìbhrigeadh ann an co-rèir ri stiùireadh bhon Riaghaltas agus bhon Oilthigh, a tha iomchaidh aig an àm a thaobh chuibhreachaidhean leantainneach COVID-19.

GAELIC IMMERSION YEAR 2021-22 OPENS FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications are being welcomed for the University of Glasgow’s Gaelic with Immersion Cert HE 2021-22, following a successful inaugural year in 2020-21.

This innovative course commenced in September 2020 despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and attracted 12 students.

Kathleen Reddy, Lecturer, said: “We’re really delighted with how the first year has gone. We managed to fill all of the available places on the course and the students have worked incredibly hard on all aspects of the course to develop and increase their fluency in Gaelic. It has been a real joy to witness their progress.”

The Gaelic with Immersion programme was first announced in October 2019 following an award from the Scottish Funding Council to support a three-year pilot and is available to existing undergraduate students and external candidates as a Cert HE.

A unique aspect of the programme includes links to Gaelic-speaking communities through partnerships with the Gaelic Books Council and Ceòlas Uibhist.

Gillebrìde MacMillan, Head of Celtic and Gaelic said: “Our partnerships are an integral feature of this course as they provide invaluable access to Gaelic-speaking communities, particularly traditional communities, which exposes students to a rich breadth of language. We’re delighted that through the use of digital technologies, we have been able to maintain this unique aspect of the course despite the pandemic restrictions.”

Speaking of her experience as one of the first participants of the Gaelic with Immersion Cert HE, Fine Mayer, said: “This course has provided me with fantastic learning opportunities both within and outside the classroom. Our teachers are extremely dedicated and knowledgeable and I could not have hoped for a more thorough Gaelic immersion experience. My language skills have improved so much and I have also become part of an irreplaceable community and made life-long friends. I couldn't recommend this course more!”

The course aims to support Gaelic learners in developing advanced Gaelic language skills, as well as an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scottish Gaelic language, culture, and literature through advanced level Gaelic language immersion. The programme is ideal for adult learners and education professionals who want to develop their fluency in Gaelic.

Applicants interested in this programme on either a full-time or part-time basis in 2021-22, have until 30 April to submit a direct application and will be invited to participate in an online interview in May 2021.

In 2021-22, the programme will be delivered in line with both Government and central University guidance appropriate to any ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
