Dr Peter Hanlon

  • Clinical Senior Research Fellow (General Practice & Primary Care)

Biography

Dr Peter Hanlon is a General Practitioner and a Clinical Research Fellow based in General Practice and Primary Care. He is interested in using quantitative methods to understand health needs and clinical management of people with multiple long-term health conditions and frailty.

Current Research

In 2019 Peter was awarded a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Training Fellowship entitled "Understanding prevalence and impact of frailty in chronic illness and implications for clinical management". This project seeks to understand how current evidence for managing long-term conditions is best applied to people living with frailty.

Background and Training

Peter graduated from University of Edinburgh with MBChB in 2011, having completed an intercalated BMedSci in Immunology in 2008. He completed Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014 and an MSc in Internal Medicine (with distinction) in 2015. He completed clinical training in General Practice in 2018, and holds diplomas in Geriatric Medicine, Child Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

In 2016 Peter joined the University of Glasgow as a SCREDS Clinical Lecturer in General Practice and Primary Care. He has worked with a group studying multimorbidity and treatment burden using UK Biobank. He has also studied chronic disease management for marginalised patient groups.

Clinical work

Peter works as a General Practitioner at Doune Health Centre.
