Research interests

Cancer Behaviour Research Group team meeting via zoom

The Cancer Behaviour Research Group's aim is to improve cancer outcomes by the application of behavioural science and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Our key areas of research are currently:

  • Improving access to cancer screening
  • Reducing inequalities in cancer screening
  • Developing cancer communications that are accessible, engaging and supportive
  • Optimising recovery from cancer surgery

Current research projects

  • Improving access to cancer screening among people with intellectual disabilities: development of a complex intervention
  • A faith based intervention for muslim women in Scotland to encourage uptake of breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening
  • Increasing uptake of faecal immunochemical test (FIT) bowel screening: trial of providing a suggested deadline for FIT kit return.
  • Increasing uptake of bowel cancer screening: development and trial of a FIT planning support tool
  • Understanding lung cancer screening participation
  • Using visual narratives to improve cancer screening information
  • Improving cancer preventive behaviours in cancer patients and their families: a feasibility study in a prehab/rehab cancer surgery context
  • Understanding longer term impacts of social distancing and behavioural interventions introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection in the population
