Biography
I joined the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit (SPHSU) at the University of Glasgow as a Research Associate in March 2024. Before joining the University of Glasgow, I was a Research Fellow (Nutrition) at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems, University of Edinburgh. Prior to that, I was in the Health Behaviours team of the Livestock, Environment & People (LEAP) project at the University of Oxford, initially as a Research Assistant and later as a post-doctoral equivalent researcher.
I graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an MSc in Human Nutrition (Public Health) in 2016, and a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science (Anatomy) in 2010.
My research has been published in the Lancet Planetary Health, Nature Food, Journal of Medical Internet Research, and the European Journal of Nutrition, among others.
Research interests
I am currently working on a 3-year Wellcome Trust-funded project aimed at maximising the potential of plant-based convenience foods within sustainable diets. My research explores how to make environmentally sustainable diets more realistic and convenient for people.
With a background in nutrition, I have extensive experience analysing nationally representative dietary surveys, particularly focussed on meat and dairy consumption trends and behaviours in Scottish and UK populations. A key component of my work has been undertaking comprehensive analyses of the Scottish Health Survey for Food Standards Scotland, supporting net-zero policy legislation regarding meat and dairy consumption.
I'm also experienced in developing and testing behaviour change interventions to encourage more sustainable food choices. I led a randomised controlled trial and a cohort study testing the effectiveness of an online self-regulation intervention to reduce meat consumption. Additionally, I co-led a large eco-labelling intervention across over 50 worksite cafeterias in the UK, and contributed as a co-investigator in various other supermarket and canteen field trials and online behavioural studies.
Ultimately, I'm interested in the implementation and analysis of strategies that promote healthy and environmentally sustainable dietary behaviours.
