Dr Alice MacLachlan

  • Business Manager (MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit)

Biography

I am Research Associate in the Complexity Programme at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit. I am currently the Coordinator for two research networks:

  • The Transdisciplinary Research for the Improvement of Youth Mental Public Health (TRIUMPH) network, funded by UK Research and Innovation, brings together young people, academics, practitioners and policy-makers to find new ways to improve youth mental health and wellbeing, especially among those where need is greatest.
  • The Population Health Agent-based Simulation nEtwork (PHASE), funded by the UK Prevention Research Partnership, creates connections between academic researchers, public sector organisations and industry to develop an interdisciplinary research network spanning simulation and population health communities that can optimally lead and support the application of agent-based models to pressing public health challenges.

Prior to this, I was the Project Manager of the Trial for Healthy Initiatives in the Very Early years (THRIVE), a three-arm randomised controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of two antenatal parenting interventions compared with routine care for women who have additional health and social care needs in pregnancy.

I graduated with BSc(Hons) in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh, and then completed a PhD in the School of Psychology at Cardiff University in 2012. Before joining the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in 2018, I worked in Medical Communications developing publications and communications for pharmaceutical industry clients in the area of inflammatory diseases.
