Authors: Dr Julie Langan Martin, Mia Wilson, Ailsa Foley, Dr Laura Sharp and Dr Jack Melson

On the 2nd of May 2024, Mia Wilson, Ailsa Foley, Dr Laura Sharp and Dr Julie Langan Martin attended and presented at the Equity in Education and Society Conference at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh (https://instituteforequity.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/QMU-Flyer.pdf). Notable conference themes included: the awarding gap, belonging, supporting students, wellbeing, social justice, decolonisation, and co-learning. Ailsa and Mia presented on their experiences of Initiating the Process of Decolonising the Teaching Materials (in Global Mental Health) and Julie, Laura, and Dr Jack Melson presented on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Global Mental Health: a Human Library Reading Event.

The teaching team gained valuable insight from other presenters and colleagues' comments on our own presentations. Some considerations we hope to further explore in relation to our own teaching in the coming months include staff and student positionality, the creation of brave spaces (as opposed to safe), supporting students to action change, and micro-segregation within the classroom environment.
