Mentoring can be defined as a relationship that supports personal and professional development. The IHW Athena Swan mentoring group facilitates matching of mentees and mentors, so that we can support each other during our career progression.

The mentoring schemes for professional services and research and teaching have recently merged, with the webpages updated accordingly.

There is an ongoing discussion as to whether the mentoring scheme for ECRs/PhD students should be merged with this group: so if you are a PhD student or ECR and would be interested in having/being a mentor, feel free to contact us and/or the ECR group.

The mentor request form has recently been updated, to better reflect the diversity of staff and experiences, so that any preferences for a mentor can be specified in free text (for example, by gender, clinical or part-time position, disability, professional services, teaching or research). We endeavour to find a suitable mentor matching the criteria where possible.

It is great to see that the people are joining the mentoring scheme (as mentors or mentees) through the PDR process, but you can also join by contacting us at any point. In addition, if you have identified a mentoring partnership already and would like it registered with the scheme, feel free to get in touch (so that we don’t unknowingly overload mentors with additional mentees).

If anyone is interested in hearing more about or joining the mentoring group, please get in touch (Rachel.allan@glasgow.ac.uk and rona.strawbridge@glasgow.ac.uk). In addition, please keep an eye out for details of how to register for the mentoring workshop being held via zoom at 10.00am to 12.00 noon on Monday 29 November 2021.
