Research from General Practice and Primary Care was highly visible at the EFPC meeting in Nanterre in September/October 2019, with opportunities to cement links with researchers from across Europe.
GPPC showcased a range of work at the recent 14th European Forum for Primary Care Conference in Nanterre, France, which took place between 30 September and 01 October 2019.
The theme for the conference was “Primary care and local communities: health equity for everyone, everywhere”, with keynote speakers emphasising the importance of social determinants of health and how these impact on public health, health equity and access to primary care.
Our PhD students Selina Wu and Alessio Albanese, presented their ongoing systematic reviews. Selina’s presentation focused on the comorbidity of chronic pain, cardiometabolic diseases and depression, whilst Alessio’s was on the relationship between pre and post migration experiences and their impact on the mental health of asylum seekers and refugees. Eilidh Green, a medical student presented her BSc research on the views of GPs about entitlements to health care for refugees and asylum seekers. Professor Kate O’Donnell talked about our recent evaluation of the primary care transformation programme in Scotland. Finally, Dr David Blane convened a workshop involving Deep End GP groups from Scotland, England, Ireland and Belgium about the role of academic/service partnership in supporting GPs working in areas of severe socio-economic deprivation.
