GPPC explores Forge shoppers' ideas on risks of TV and sleep

GPPC team visits the Forge Shopping Centre to raise awareness around TV viewing time and sleep duration, and ask for shoppers' ideas on what helps or hinders healthy living
As part of Explorathon 2018, a GPPC team went to The Forge Shopping Centre to raise awareness around television (TV) viewing time and sleep duration. We also wanted shoppers’ ideas on what helps or hinders healthy living.
Our ‘hook’ was asking passers-by to estimate (by voting into ‘ballot boxes’) what minimising TV time and increasing short sleep would do to heart disease risk. Afterwards, we highlighted the risk estimates from the literature, hoping to start a conversation on barriers and facilitators to healthier levels of sleep and TV. Peoples’ responses were captured by free text on a poster. The fuller the poster became the more passers-by became interested!
At the end of an exhausting but thought provoking and fun day we had 68 ‘votes’ cast and, on our poster, loads of innovative ideas on healthy living in Glasgow.
