What’s been happening to promote equality and diversity in IHW this month? Our AS Champion Dr Breda Cullen provides a quick overview.

Thank you to everyone who completed the recent workload survey. This has given us valuable insights into the complexities of what everyone is dealing with currently. We will consider what actions can be taken to help promote better work/life balance now and for the longer term.

Carer issues

Dr Jana Anderson (Public Health) is chair of our Athena SWAN Maternity, Paternity, Parental and Carer Issues Working Group. Here on YouTube she provides an overview of the key messages from a Social Care Survey conducted in 2020 by the Carers Trust, and how IHW plans to respond to the findings. Please take the time to watch it and feel free to suggest what IHW might do to better support our staff with caring responsibilities - please email ihwadmin@glasgow.ac.uk. You can find out more about Carers Trust here and what services might be available in your area on their website https://carers.org/. Carers Week is 07 to 13 June this year and IHW will have an online event on the morning of Wednesday 09 June, so please save the date.

Funding to support career development for women in STEM

We encourage applications to the Equate Scotland Joan Davidson Fund, which provides up to £300 to help women achieve a project or a plan which would enhance their career in their chosen STEM field. Funds can be used flexibly, e.g. to attend a specialist training course or conference, purchase equipment, or cover childcare costs to enable participation in career-enhancing activities. The fund is open to students and staff and has four deadlines per year.
