The College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group has produced online resources that explain the basics of PPIE.
Our vision for MVLS is an embedded support system for patient and public involvement that will facilitate the development of links between researchers, patients and public, with appropriate support and remuneration to ensure that collaborations have the time to grow and work together to develop research applications with robust and meaningful outcomes.
Our resources include an online lecture to introduce PPIE, and a fascinating lecture from the University of Leicester on how to address ethnicity and diversity issues in PPIE. There are interactive courses for public reviewers and researchers who want to find out more about good PPIE. We have useful guidance on costings for PPIE, finding people for involvement, ethical issues and data protection in PPIE, as well as wider links to national PPIE resources.
The MVLS PPIE website highlights the work of some PPI groups in the University of Glasgow. You can apply for support from the MVLS PPIE Steering group which meets every three months to provide lay perspectives on grant applications and funded projects. Their support is extended to all researchers across the university working in this area.
We welcome feedback and comment – to get in touch, please contact Tracy Ibbotson at mvls-ppie@glasgow.ac.uk
