Older adults obscured in media representations of cancer

Research by IHW's Dr Sara Macdonald and colleagues has found that while people over the age of 60 are much more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than younger people they feature far less often within media representations of the disease, with a possible impact on their perception of risk and attendance of screening.

Mental health self-help book available "on prescription"

"Living Life to the Full" by IHW's Professor Chris Williams has been added to national "Reading Well" mental health reading list, with multiple copies made available in every library in England and Wales for GPs to prescribe to patients with low mood.

Frailty in middle age linked to higher mortality

Using UK Biobank data, IHW's Professor Frances Mair, Dr Peter Hanlon and colleagues have identified an association between frailty, multimorbidity, specific long-term conditions, and mortality in a middle-aged and older aged population.
