A new film from the Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory highlights research findings about mortality rates for children and young people with learning/intellectual disabilities
A new film from the Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory, titled "Reducing avoidable deaths in children and young people with learning disabilities" highlights research findings about mortality rates for children and young people with learning/intellectual disabilities, recently published by SLDO.
One of the most common causes of severe illness and avoidable death is respiratory infection, with the rate of respiratory deaths being 55 times higher for children and young people with learning/intellectual disabilities.
SLDO researchers Gillian Smith and Laura Hughes-McCormack have collaborated with people with learning disabilities, clinicians, health and care professionals and third sector support organisations to produce this short film.
Reducing avoidable deaths in children and young people with learning disabilities
The purpose of the film is to engage health and social care professionals, educators and voluntary staff about these important research findings and highlight the ways they can help reduce avoidable chest infections in young people.
