We were delighted to launch Byres Hub Twitter account @UofGByresHub to coincide with the doors of Clarice Pears opening to the public in March 2023. Follow us, tag us or use #ByresCommunityHub for all things community engagement.
Byres Hub branding
Branding for our social media, the hub’s website in development and marketing and communications materials is being created by our fantastic in-house MVLS design team. The autumnal brand colours of Leaf to reflect our interior living wall, Rust like the bright furniture in level 1 and Burgundy to reflect the exterior colour of Clarice Pears have been chosen. We have continued the ‘swirl’ design that can be seen on the artwork outside and throughout the building.

An exhibition of creative health and wellbeing in our communities
Organisations who were part of our consultation to develop Byres Hub asked that this space promote the great work happening locally to support health and wellbeing. We are therefore really pleased to be partnering North West Glasgow Voluntary Sector Network (NWGVSN) in a showcase of "Creative Health and Wellbeing in our Communities" in our Byres Hub display tower so look out for this exhibition from June 2023.
The public’s public health
Byres Hub has been awarded Glasgow Knowledge Exchange small grants funding for ‘The Public’s Public Health’ photovoice project starting in May with four community groups in Glasgow. This project aims to bring a range of perspectives on public health into our opening exhibition as part of the University’s Public Health centenary celebrations and provide a further opportunity to promote the work going on to improve health and wellbeing in Glasgow. We are happy to announce our community partners on this project: Outdoors for You Walking Group; Active Life Club Parents Youth Forum, Milton Rattlers Social Club and Govan Community Project Men’s Group thanks to this funding.
Community use of Byres Hub
With the help of our fantastic reception team, Ainsley and Georgia, we have continued to welcome members of the public and visitors from community and third sector organisations into Clarice Pears to see the space available in Byres Hub and groups have started to hold their own meetings and plan future events. A special mention also for Robert from the university’s Facilities team and Lorraine from Catering for all their help in these first few weeks as we all get used to our new surroundings while making people from outside of the university feel welcome at Clarice Pears.
Organisations from the voluntary sector can email byreshub@glasgow.ac.uk if they would like to enquire about spaces or with any other enquiries.
Building relationships between SHW and community groups
As part of these introductory meetings, we explore links with our research and the work of organisations. For example, we recently met with Bushra from Kidney Research UK and asked new staff member Dr Catrin Jones, who is looking at treatment burden in people transitioning onto kidney replacement therapy, to join us. We also met Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, Glasgow’s Principal and Vice Chancellor and MSP Anas Sarwar that day who were on a tour of level 1 with SHW’s Professor Sara Macdonald. Thanks to Bushra for sending us this photograph from the meeting.
