School of Health and Wellbeing is pleased to announce another date for our face to face BSL (British Sign Language) Cafés for 2024.
BSL Cafes objectives are to conserve BSL for future generations as well as to promote and educate as many people about BSL Language.
These lunchtime sessions will run at least once per month throughout 2024, we aim to provide an informal and sociable environment to explore BSL and to find out more about deaf/Deaf culture, supported by an experienced BSL teacher.
Each month attendees are invited to join us to practice and become more fluent in their signing skills. Whether you are a beginner, already know a few signs, or are a skilled signer, everyone is welcome.
Our aim is to make this a fun event, where you can learn the basics or just practice in a more relaxed friendly environment (or watch others signing, if you prefer, or are completely new to BSL). Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided. The venue is being held at the Clarice Pears Building, 90 Byres Road, G12 8TB.
We hope that these cafés will raise awareness of deaf culture and increase the number of staff and students with basic BSL skills, giving you the confidence to communicate with a deaf/Deaf or hard of hearing person.
To complement these face to face sessions, we also run a BSL Café MS Teams group. Anyone with an interest in BSL is welcome to join, whether or not you decide to attend our face to face events. Ask to join the BSL Café MS Team.
