The SHW Athena Swan ECR Career Progression Sub-group has set up an ECR grant writing group to assist ECRs who are thinking of writing their own grant.

The group will meet monthly, and each meeting will involve presentations and a Q&A on a topic related to grant writing.

Presentations will be from ECRs who have experience writing grants, as well as various experts from within the university. This will be an informal and friendly environment to learn about the steps involved in grant writing, share your ideas and receive feedback from fellow ECRs. The first of these sessions will be running in September 2023- exact date tbc.

We would like to invite some ECRs who have successfully applied for a grant to present at one of two sessions:

  1. To talk through the creative process from having the initial idea/research question to developing it into a project that would take x number of months/years to complete. We would like to include a mixture of ECRs who have won a short-term grant (1-2 years) and longer-term grant (3+ years).
  2. To describe how they identified and approached appropriate co-applicants for their grant, and any advice they have on navigating the co-applicant relationship.

Presenters will be asked to speak for 5/10 minutes on their topic each, and then there will be a Q&A with the group.

This is an excellent opportunity to share your research and grant writing experiences with peers and to build connections with other ECRs.

If you are interested in presenting at one of these sessions, please email kirsty.dunn@glasgow.ac.uk
