Published: 3 July 2024
Find out what Lily, School admin assistant, enjoys most about her job and how she spends her time outside of work.
Tell us a bit about what you do in SHW
I am an admin assistant in SHW, and my responsibilities include video editing, transcribing the closed captions, updating T4, monitoring site improvements, general administration, placing orders for the school via the HUB and assisting people with queries at L1 reception. When someone needs help, they can ask me to complete a task for them; I am pleased to assist in any manner I can.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy learning a lot of new skills in this role as an admin assistant and any other skills that can help me build up and expand my CV. I am currently undertaking level 1 BSL.
What are the challenges?
The biggest challenge is overcoming my nervousness when talking to new people and communicating regarding the task. I often have a hard time understanding what I need to do and how to execute this correctly. It is helpful for people to give me clear written instructions as this helps me to carry out the task correctly.
What is the best thing about working in SHW?
I get to meet the most wonderful people at work, and learning more about how to edit on websites such as T4 and produce transcripts for meetings is fantastic.
Tell us something we might not know about you
When I was younger, I used to watch a lot of games by famous YouTube stars who play RPG games or any other games or other genres such as scary, horror, funny and calm games, that’s how it all started.
Every Saturday, I used to watch My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and get the toys. It was so much fun, and that's how I started drawing MLP characters, dinosaurs, flowers, and sometimes myself and my family. I am a good artist and find this a relaxing thing to do.
When or where are you happiest?
I am happiest when I am reading books about different genres, spending time with my family, watching movies, playing board games like Uno, and spending time outside when the weather is nice. I enjoy playing games on my PS4, especially Genshin Impact, and I watch a variety of anime, my favourites being Demon Slayer and Black Butler.
Tell us about something (or more than one thing!) you are proud of
I am very proud that I passed my admin test with an A grade after working very hard on it, and I am really pleased that the work experience I have gained has led to a job as an admin assistant at the University of Glasgow where I have made many new friends and learn new skills every day.
Any secret – or not so secret! – ambitions?
I've been doing Bushido karate for about 4 years or so and won second place in a tournament. I was a purple and white belt but recently dropped out. My personal dream is to travel to Japan with my family and explore everything Japanese, such as anime and the beautiful scenery.
Do you have a favourite quote or saying, or mantra by which you try live your life?
“Should the day ever come that we are not together, you will continue to shine like gold in my memories” Zhongli.
Any final words?
Thank you for everyone’s support and I am glad to be here in the University.
These are my cats Saffi and Suki.
