LGBT+ History Month is celebrated in the UK in February. It was first celebrated in 2005. Each year, LGBT+ History Month has a different theme, with Schools OUT, the founders of LGBT+ History Month UK, providing free resources for education, business, services and organisations.

This year, LGBT+ History Month celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contributions to medicine and healthcare, both historically and currently. It showcases the amazing work of LGBT+ staff across the NHS and in other healthcare settings, especially during the pandemic. It also shines a light on the LGBT+ community’s experiences of healthcare and the health inequalities faced by LGBT+ people even today.

In our very own health and wellbeing setting, SHW, we are delighted to have secured money from MVLS Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) funds to build upon our LGBTQ+ Learning Lunch, which was a resounding success in 2023. Watch this space for more info.

To join the SHW LGBTQ+ Working Group or find out more information, contact Caroline Haig (Caroline.Haig@glasgow.ac.uk) or Avril Johnstone (Avril.Johnstone@glasgow.ac.uk), the group’s co-chairs.
