Dr Adam Smith

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate in Numerical Modelling (School of Geographical & Earth Sciences)

Biography

Adam Smith is a postdoctoral research associate in numerical modelling in the school of geographical and earth sciences. Adam's research interests focus on tectonic geomorphoplogy, and in particular the use of river networks and large topographic data sets to understand the processes influencing landscape evolution. His research integrates field obvservations and lab work to inform numerical modelling of erosional processes, particularly applied to river networks. He is particularly interetsed in determining how rivers incise mountain ranges, and has published on a number of ranges including the Sierra Nevada and Wasatch Ranges in the western US, the Siwalik Hills, the Olympic Mountains, the Pyrenees and the Himalayas.

Adam gained an MSci in Geology from Imperial College London in 2020, and his PhD in tectonic geomorphology in 2024 from Birkbeck, University of London and University College London.

Research interests

  • Tectonic geomorphology
  • Fluvial erosion
