Overview

Student Wellbeing and Inclusion consist of the Disability Service, Chaplaincy, Student Support Officers and Counselling and Wellbeing Service, these are available to support students, even when they are in the field.

In a crisis, you have many options, you can: 

  • Chat with a fellow student
  • Chat with a member of the field staff
  • Get in touch with the student support officer
  • Chat with one of our peer wellbeing supporters
  • Book a regular counselling appointment with the Counselling and Wellbeing service.
  • If you are in another country or don’t have access, Counselling and Wellbeing Service will set up an appointment locally for you (using a 3rd party provider). You can ask a staff member for help with this
  • Call the Counselling and Advice Helpline for free 
  • Use the Counselling and Advice Helpline app for video or live chat (this is also available if you are out of the country)
  • In a severe crisis, a member of staff can get support from the Crisis Team (see below)

Counselling and advice helpline: Health Assured

The university has partnered with Health Assured to deliver a 24-hour, confidential service to support students with a wide variety of issues. All University students can access the free confidential helpline on 0800 028 3766 or use the App to discuss any difficulties. Help is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with counsellors on hand to provide guidance and help students work through any concerns

Student support officers

Our team of Student Support Officers are here help students to be successful learners, by providing first line support. Signposting them to sources of information, advice and guidance in relation to their studies, their well-being and providing informal advice. The team will encourage and help support students to resolve their issues and difficulties. You can get in touch here:

Peer-wellbeing support

Peer wellbeing support is a confidential, student-led listening service for students to talk and share their problems online/in person. You can expect an empathetic and non-judgemental space. Supporters will not advise or tell you what to do. Peer Wellbeing Supporter is not counselling. This is a suitable service for those struggling with mild mental health problems. For example, you may be feeling more worried, anxious, stressed or sad than normal. 

Counselling and psychological services

If your symptoms are becoming unmanageable and are having an impact on your daily life, then you can access specialised support via the university’s Counselling and Psychological Services or through your GP. You can contact them here: studentpeersupport@glasgow.ac.uk 

The Crisis team

The University Crisis Team is a decision-making body formed of senior members of the Student and Academic Services directorate and Security. The Team can be contacted 24/7, and can provide guidance and decision-making support in the following situations:

  • Student death
  • Student has been hospitalised (serious illness/mental health
  • crisis)
  • Student is at immediate risk of suicide/in mental health crisis
  • Student appears to be missing
  • Student is made homeless
