Glasgow Engineering Futures Fellowships
The University of Glasgow offers comprehensive and cutting-edge career development activity for Research Fellows in line with our Research Strategy, Research Culture priorities and Researcher Concordat Action Plan.
UofG Fellows are supported to select a personalised package of career development, and are engaged as key stakeholders in the design of strategic initiatives.
Designed to wrap around your Fellowship, we offer bespoke support that incorporates sector leading approaches, designed and delivered by award-winning development specialists. This includes induction, community building through the Fellows Network and College Research Staff Networks, support for those starting out with PGR supervision, mentoring and coaching for future funding applications and promotion.
A Glasgow Engineering Futures Fellowship includes:
- A five-year appointment at Grade 8 (exceptional cases at Grade 9)
- £75,000 of research funds over five years
- PhD Studentship (UK national funding)
We recognise that there are structural barriers that may prevent career progression of appointees and in addition offer individually tailored measures to support career development, including:
- Career development fund to support leadership training, one-on-one coaching, networking, careers support to attend conferences and meetings
- A mentor in a similar research field and a lived experience mentor as appropriate
- Access to a range of University career development opportunities including: Supervisor Development Activity; Talent Lab; Early Career Development Programme (ECDP)
- Bespoke career development opportunities
Progression to an open-ended appointment:
It is anticipated that following a successful interview at the end of year three, Fellows will be in a strong position to transition to an open-ended post. Additional planned growth across the School over the next five years will also create open-ended opportunities that will be open to GEFFs to apply to at any stage of the fellowship.
