What's your name?
Linda Pollock
What is your job title/role?
Lithography Technical Section Leader
Describe your role in the University?
I manage a team of technical staff who support lithography activities within the JWNC. In doing so, I demonstrate direction and leadership. I take responsibility for the prioritisation and delegation of work programmes and carry out all staff management /administrative functions including attendance management; holidays; P&DR; and the development of staff training. Specific focus is on the training of Modern Apprentices.
What’s the best memory of your job? What do you like most about your job? What are you most proud of achieving at the University?
Best memory must be all the Departmental Christmas Parties and the Annual Bus Runs. Most vivid memories are those that make me “cringe”!
I welcome the opportunity to undertake new disciplines and welcome new challenges and I never shy away from responsibility. I’m most proud off having worked my way through the ranks and achieving my current position. I have successfully supervised new technical staff and trained SVQ apprentices during my long-term career.
I have always shown a willingness to give more of my time when required.
What’s a common question you get from customers?
I’m frequently asked how long I’ve worked at the University. My 36-year response always gets a surprised reaction!
How would you sum up the University in 5 words?
Research-Based, Competitive, Diverse, Challenging, Rewarding
Anything you would have done differently, or advice you would give to others?
I have no regrets about my career choice, and I’m happily settled. The advice I’d give to others is to be a team player and maintain a good work ethic.
