Mr Yu Chen

Biography

Yu Chen received his B.S. degree in Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation and his M.S. degree in Instrument Science and Technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2017 and 2020, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, U.K., in 2024.

From March 2022 to May 2024, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Glasgow, contributing to the European Space Agency-funded “Satellite for Digitalization of Railways (SODOR)” project and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology-funded “Small Cells ORAN in Dense Areas” project. In the SODOR project, he led a design team that developed a trackside weather monitoring system using LoRa mesh and satellite communication, which has been adopted by Network Rail. Currently, he is a postdoctoral research associate, focusing on several 5G and Open RAN-related projects.

Research interests

My main interests include Open RAN, LoRa, LPWAN-5G integration, and Internet of things.
