Research interests

Scott is currently working as a Lecturer in Electronic & Photonics Devices. He completed his PhD on visible light communications at the University of Glasgow, before conducting research across a range of topics as a postdoctoral researcher.

Research interests include:

  • The use of lasers and LEDs in the visible spectrum for communications in free space, through fibre and underwater.
  • Narrow linewidth DFB lasers for optical quantum clocks and underwater communications.
  • Lasers at 1310 nm and 1550 nm for telecommunications.
  • Resonant tunneling diodes, both electrically and optically driven, for terahertz communication applications.
  • Single photon avalanche detectors (SPADs) for LiDAR.
