Professor Joao Ponciano

Biography
João Ponciano received his M.Eng. (Hons) in computer systems engineering from the University of Lancaster, UK in 1997, an MA in academic practice with distinction from the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 2011, his LL.B. (Hons) law from the Open University in 2017 and his Ph.D. in load balancing and quality of service for multimedia networks from the University of Chichester, UK in 2018.
João is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), 1996 and a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) since 2006. He is also a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) in 2002 and Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP) since 2004 and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) since 2004.
From 1997 he was a researcher and team leader at the International Organisation for Nuclear Research in the Information Technology Division in Geneva, Switzerland. From 1998 he became a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Computer Networks at Leeds Becket University, moving to a career as a Principal Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004 where he remained until 2014 before joining PSB Academy in Singapore as an Executive Dean and Senior Vice President, in a concurrent appointment as Director of Academic Affairs for the Star Education Group PTE in Singapore.
He joined the University of Glasgow since 2019 as a Senior Lecturer and Vice-Dean for the Glasgow College transnational partnership with the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China in Chengdu. He is the author of numerous conference and journal papers and a book chapter on topics ranging from employability in the engineering curriculum as well as modelling and simulation of computer networks in the areas of topologies and quality of service provision.
His research interests include networking systems and technologies, distributed systems and cybersecurity, relational database systems, data mining, simulation modelling and data analytics and software engineering design and development. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Wireless Networking and Communications, Consumer Electronics Times (CET) International Journal and the International Journal of Information and Operations Management Education.
Dr Ponciano was the winner of the Manchester Metropolitan University 2009 Festival of Employability 2009 with Project Employability for World Class Professionals.
