Mechanics of Materials and Structures

Mechanics of Materials and Structures deals with the mechanical behaviour of engineering and natural materials and structures. Much of the activity in this Theme takes place within the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre (GCEC).

A complimentary activity in the Geotechnics research theme is the constitutive modelling of granular media, soil and rock.

We also undertake leading research in hydraulics and fluid mechanics.

Dr Peter Grassl

Summary of research interests

The aim of my research is to predict and improve the strength and durability of heterogeneous materials, such as concrete and rock by analyses and experiments at multiple scales. I am interested in understanding how fracture interacts with mass transport and heat transfer.
