Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering

Two recently-appointed researchers in the Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering Division in the School of Engineering have won the UKRI Innovation Fellowships from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The highly competitive UKRI Innovation Fellowship is targeted at early career researchers across the UK, providing funds (~£800k FEC) for three years to nurture future leaders in both industry and academia.

Dr Matteo Clerici has received funding to study quantum enhanced terahertz imaging. His project aims at transforming infrared spectroscopy, harnessing quantum metrology to overcome the standard quantum limit faced by time-domain spectrometers. Dr Vihar Georgiev is supported to carry out computer modelling of the next generation quantum nanodevices. His project brings together three UK companies and the Device Modelling Group in the University of Glasgow to deliver progress in the field of quantum security for IoT and cybersecurity application. 

The Head of College of Science and Engineering Professor Muffy Calder says, ‘I congratulate Matteo and Vihar on their tremendous success. This demonstrates that the School of Engineering is consolidating its position at the absolute forefront of applied research and fostering the next generation of research leaders.’
