The Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Electrification Group (APE) delivers frontier research across high and low-speed aerodynamics using state-of-the-art experimental facilities in the UK as well as EPSRC Tier-2 National HPC Facilities, development of novel propulsion and powertrain design for electric and Hydrogen-powered aircraft. The group also explores the application of superconducting materials and disruptive technologies like cryo-electrification in the transport sector. The group hosts the ESA-ESTEC Plume Regolith and AWE Shock Tube facilities, and several high-speed wind tunnels. We are contributing to the European (ACARE, EASN, CAJU), UK (ADS), and US (AIAA) research strategies.
