This issue we shine the spotlight on Dr Syed M. Raza, a top lecturer on our Glasgow College team.
As the Glasgow College team continues to grow, we are happy to provide staff both 'old' and 'new' with a chance to introduce themselves to readers. This time we turn the spotlight on Dr Syed M. Raza, who joined our partnership in July 2024 as a Lecturer. He teaches primarily at the Chengdu campus, and has an office in Glasgow.
Which subjects do you teach?
Introductory Programming
Which fields of research are you most interested in and why?
Intelligent Netowrks, 6G and beyond, AI medical.
What is the most memorable project you have been involved in at Glasgow College UESTC or elsewhere and why?
The 'Virtual Edge' project in Korea, resulting in innovative and intelligent network solutions recognized by Samsung!
Can you tell us about a proud moment working at Glasgow College, UESTC?
State-of-the-art research opportunities, very intriguing and impressive teaching program, very collegial working environment, and very supportive staff.
What or who inspired you to study engineering?
Knowing my interests in physics and mathematics, I always knew that I am going to be an engineer. My mother is mainly responsible for my English capabilities and I am very thankful for that. I always loved the freedom in academia to chase your dreams, and this attracted me to make my career in academia and not in industry.
Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of work:
Some trekking and spending time in nature with my girls. We enjoy a nice day at beach and family movie night. I love sports, and nothing better than an hour in a squash court.
