Teaching Excellence Awards - Winter Graduations

At this winter's graduation ceremonies, Dr Kelum Gamage and Dr Guodong Zhao were presented with Teaching Excellence Awards for outstanding contributions to teaching and student support.
At the winter graduations, the Vice Principal presented Dr Kelum Gamage with a Teaching Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to teaching and student support
Some key points were noted about the achievements of Dr Gamage:
- Dr Gamage works hard to support students in Glasgow College UESTC - our collaboration with the University of Electronics Science and Technology China, based in Chengdu, Sichuan province.
- As co-director for the CEDI Dr Gamage now manages learning and teaching initiatives valued at 420k of over the last 2 years.
- He co-founded and co-leads the University of Glasgow Community of Practice for sustainability in learning and teaching.
- He leads the Advance HE network considering sustainability across the whole higher education sector.
At the winter graduations, the Vice Principle presented Dr Guodong Zhao with a Teaching Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to teaching and student support
Some key points were noted about the achievements of Dr Zhao:
- Dr Zhao has been cited many times in student feedback for the excellence of his course materials and the quality of his course delivery.
- He obtained funding for robotic arms to be placed in labs in Glasgow and Chengdu and with his students created a set of practical laboratory sessions to give students, who had to be taught remotely due to Covid 19, the opportunity to interact with real hardware as part of their course.
- This success has been adopted by other universities to improve remote teaching and resulted in a large funded project with the University of Hong Kong, Super Reality for Hands Off Online Education.
- He obtained UK government funding along with a local Glasgow VR E Learning company to further develop and commercialise the robotics technology in education in the UK and internationally.
Dr Zhao said: "I strongly believe new technologies, such as robotics, AR/VR, etc., will significantly enhance the student learning experience and I am honoured to have received this award".
