Information for future students
The James Watt School of Engineering offers cutting edge, research informed learning that will help you develop the skills and experience to solve national and global societal problems using engineering ingenuity and creativity.
As a large research-intensive school we offer a diverse portfolio of programmes across most engineering disciplines. Our programmes are fully accredited by professional bodies and are delivered under the auspices of our five teaching disciplines, each of which is led by a Head of Discipline.
- Aerospace Engineering: Dr Ian Taylor
- Biomedical Engineering: Dr Henrik Gollee
- Civil Engineering: Professor Fiona Bradley
- Electronics and Electrical Engineering: Dr Euan McGookin
- Mechanical Engineering: Dr Phil Dobson
Our extended curriculum in Scotland, which is typically one year longer, enables students on our MEng degree programme to undertake an extensive individual project (all of Semester 1) in their chosen discipline which is not typical elsewhere in the UK. This project may be taken in industry, at international universities or within the world-leading research laboratories at Glasgow.
Graduates from Glasgow are in high demand. The latest HESA Graduate Outcomes data, a survey of graduates 15 months post graduation, indicates that 92.6% of first degree, full-time, UK domiciled graduates from 2020 are in professional employment [TimesST Professional Rate 2024].

Our student Societies
As a student at Glasgow, you will be exposed to a broad range of student societies that offer a range of extra-curricular challenges and opportunities. Our extensive range of student societies is greater than that which is typically available elsewhere.
You can watch some short video introductions on just some of these at Student societies
