Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the James Watt School of Engineering
The James Watt School of Engineering is dedicated to developing, maintaining and supporting a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion for all its staff and students.
The School was proud to be awarded Athena SWAN Bronze in 2016 and then Silver in 2021.
Our ambition is to be a beacon for best-practice, widening EDI beyond gender diversity towards inclusion of all underrepresented groups.

Glasgow Engineering Futures Fellowships
The James Watt School of Engineering is a growing dynamic international centre of excellence for engineering research and teaching. As the School grows, we want to do ensure we do so in an equitable manner. To this end, the Schools EDI committee, supported by the University of Glasgow has launched Glasgow Engineering Futures Fellowships.
This round is focused on female early-career academics and a subsequent phase, expected to open August/September 2025, will be open to applicants of all sexes and gender identities.
UofG Women in Engineering
Meet Claire, a PhD student in our School, working on ground-breaking research into Marfan syndrome—a rare genetic condition. Her work is helping to advance our understanding of this condition.
Rowntree Fellowship
The Rowntree Fellowship is open to all staff who have taken a career break for the purposes of parental leave lasting for a minimum of 4 months and provides up to £10k matched funding for successful applicants to the University's Academic Returners Scheme.
Applications should provide information on what the funding will be used for and how it will contribute to an academic’s career following such leave.
Please contact Tania Galabova in the first instance for an application form and to discuss your application.
