Criminal record check/PVG
All Initial Teacher Education students are required to be members of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) or to provide the University with a Scheme Record Update. In early July, we will be in contact with those applicants holding an offer who are classed as home students, with details on how to complete the online PVG application form.
If you are an EU or International applicant you will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme when you arrive in Scotland and the Programme Secretary will be in contact on Induction Day.
Deferred entry
We are not able to make deferred offers due to the high number of applications we receive each year.
Degree requirements
A specific class of honours degree is not required and ordinary degrees are acceptable for entry on the PGDE programme.
For specific subject requirements for PGDE Secondary, please see the programme webpage.
Applicants to PGDE Primary should note that whilst all degree classifications will be considered priority will be given to applicants who have a 2.1 honours degree or better. Because of the high number of applicants for the PGDE Primary programme who have academic qualifications significantly above the minimum, it is likely that not all qualified applicants will be invited to participate in face-to-face selection. Those with a combination of excellent qualifications and significant work experience with children and/or young people will be given priority.
Direct entry
Direct entry to Year 2 or 3 of our undergraduate ITE degrees is not available due to the specific structure of our programmes of study and placements.
Disability support
The Disability factsheet provides information on the University’s procedures for students who have a disability for which they may require support during their time at University or while on placement in schools.
If you have a disability, do take advantage of the support offered by the service and by the University so that you may gain the maximum benefit from your professional training here.
If you are unsure of your support needs, or of what might be available to you, please contact Ms Fiona McGregor (see below) to arrange an informal meeting to discuss whether or not any particular arrangements are required.
Please note that if you have declared a disability, the University and placement schools have a duty to ensure that you receive all the necessary advice and support. If you feel you do not wish to have your disability/requirements made known to University and/or support staff and/or placement schools, you will be asked to confirm this in writing.
For further information on support available to disabled student teachers, please contact the School of Education's Disability Co-ordinator, Ms Fiona McGregor, either by telephone on 0141 330 3401, or e-mail to Fiona.McGregor@glasgow.ac.uk

Placement in Schools

This may be increased to two hours in exceptional circumstances and any student in this position would be contacted to meet with their Programme Leader and Adviser of Studies. Administrative staff will to try to redress lengthy travel in one placement with a shorter journey, if possible, for a subsequent placement.
The term-time address provided by students on placement request forms is used when placements are being arranged. Any student who changes address during the session must contact the Undergraduate and ITE Office to ensure staff are working with up-to-date information when arranging placements. Placements cannot be completed outside of Scotland.

We are happy to offer advice on entry requirements and eligibility for our programmes prior to application submission, however, we do not offer a pre-application review and our priority will always be to assess applications that have been submitted through UCAS.
