MA Religious and Philosophical Education
About the MA Religious and Philosophical Education
The MA in Religious and Philosophical Education is a four year undergraduate degree programme with a concurrent professional teaching qualification, for those who wish to teach Religious Education and/or Philosophy in either Catholic or non-denominational secondary schools.
The programme contains courses run by specialists in the Schools of Education, Arts (Philosophy) and Critical Studies (Theology and Religious Studies), drawing on expertise from across the University in all subject areas. Students on the MA have courses in world religions, aspects of moral and political philosophy, philosophies of religion and of education, and are introduced to practical aspects of teaching, drawing on the latest and best research in learning and teaching.
Every year of the programme, students undertake practical school placements in a variety of schools, starting with an upper primary placement in year one, and moving towards achieving the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) Standard for Initial Teacher Education by the end of the fourth year.
On successful completion of the degree, graduates will qualify for the Scottish Teacher Induction Scheme.
