Biography
I am a University Lecturer in the School of Education, having joined the University of Glasgow in August 2004 from a professional background in primary education. I gained my Undergraduate MA(Hons) Degree in Geography and my MEd (distinction) from Glasgow University. I also have my PGDE Primary (distinction) qualification and have undertaken study abroad in Boston, USA.
I teach on a range of theoretical, disciplinary and inter-disciplinary courses on the undergraduate MEduc and the postgraduate PGDE Primary Education programmes. I contribute to the Masters in Museum Education and the Education in Museums and Heritage (International) programmes and I supervise a wide range of MEduc and MEd dissertations. My specialist areas of interest here include Inclusive Education, Environmental Education, Primary Mathematics and Museum and Heritage Education.
I am passionate about social justice, sustainability and pedagogies that value harmonising and taking care of people, place and the environment/nature. I am a school expereince tutor and have worked extensively with school partners and university colleagues to mentor students on placement for their teaching qualification. I am an Advisor of Studies - this academic year for our MEduc Year 1 students.
Research interests
I am affiliated with the School of Education Pedagogy, Praxis and Faith Research and Teaching Group. My research interests include:
Faith-based religious education and ethos with particular focus on the Jesuits and the Ignatian paradigm;sustainability and nature-based/outdoor/environmental education; heritage and culture; inter-disciplinary approaches blending primary maths and the environment; teacher education.
