Miss Evelyn McLaren

Biography

Evelyn is a qualified primary teacher and lecturer in education who works on a range of Initial Teacher Education courses for undergraduate students. Evelyn has an MEd in Professional Learning and Enquiry and is currently completing a Doctorate of Education (EdD) exploring Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students’ understanding of food and nutrition education and their role in supporting pupils’ capabilities in adopting health promoting behaviours.

Evelyn is the Deputy Directory of Undergraduate and Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in the School of Education. Evelyn is also the Programme Leader for the MEduc (Master of Primary Education with TQ) programme the flagship Integrated Masters ITE programme.

Evelyn is the course leader for the Education in Practice 1: Learning and Values and Theories of Child Development, Curriculum Enquiry 2 and Education and Society 3 courses. She also teaches Primary Mathematics, Fundamentals of Education and Education in Practice 5. Based on her contribution to learning and teaching, Evelyn received an Early Career College Teaching Excellence Award as well as a College Teaching Excellence Team Award as part of her contribution to the primary mathematics team.

Evelyn has experience of teaching on the PGDE programme, supervising undergraduate and PGT Masters students during their dissertation phase and supporting undergraduate students as an Advisor of Study. Evelyn has also taught on the PGT Teacher and Middle Leadership courses in partnership with Falkirk and South Lanarkshire councils. In addition to these activities Evelyn is a member of the SoE Health, Wellbeing and Sustainability Committee, Good Cause and Progress Committees and is a former member of the School of Education Ethic Reviewing Committee.

Research interests

She is currently working on research relating to:

  • food and nutrition education 
  • ITE students’ knowledge in and attitudes towards teaching science
  • evaluating School-University Partnerships
  • student perceptions of poverty in initial teacher education
  • curriculum mapping and design
