BERA Roundup: Blogs, Presentations and Roundtables at the British Educational Research Association annual conference
Published: 27 September 2024
PPF members presented their research across a variety of topics and formats for BERA 2024, including contributions by Dr Utkun Aydin, Professor Sarah Anderson, and Dr Gabriella Rodolico
- Professor Sarah Anderson was invited to contribute to a blog post as part of the BERA Conference 2024 and WERA Focal Meeting blog series as an abstract which was scored the highest by reviewers. The BERA Blog post, ‘Judging teaching effectiveness during initial teacher education: Examining the duplexity of professional judgment and consistency’ was published in anticipation of the presentation at the 2024 BERA/WERA conference in Manchester on September 11, 2024.
- Dr Utkun Aydin presented at the BERA, Manchester, UK in September 2024. The co-authored (Dr Meric Ozgeldi) presentation was entitled “Preservice Mathematics Teachers’ Appraisal of Competency Demands in a Mathematical Task.”
- Dr Gabriella Rodolico and Dr Lavinia Hirsu published their work about virtual reality as the BERA blog item at Virtual reality (VR) in education: A game changer or smoke and mirrors? | BERA. In this blog post, Gabriella Rodolico and Lavinia Hirsu reflect on the impact of virtual reality (VR) in education, focusing on how VR-supported lessons could support pre-service teachers' technological and pedagogical content knowledge. They explore how the uptake of VR depends on the evolution of human-to-human and human-to-tech relationships. They say “It is not enough to unpack the transformative impact of VR on the learning process if we do not approach educators and learners to take advantage of the benefits VR could offer. How do we best equip VR-informed educators and learners who can not only benefit but also co-construct VR worlds to serve their learning needs?”
