Using research to promote inclusion and equity in education

Who benefits from the research?

The UNESCO resource materials developed through Professor Ainscow’s leadership are being used extensively across the world to review and develop national education systems. For example, he recently worked with a team of government officials in Oman, with support from UNICEF, using the framework in the UNESCO Guide to review current policy and practice. This involved the collection of evidence from a range of stakeholders, including practitioners, students and families, which is now being used to introduce policy reformsSimilar processes have recently been used in Colombia, Sweden and Uruguay

In Latin America, Professor Ainscow is working with the Organization of American States in coordinating a series of national initiatives, using the UNESCO Guide to promote inclusion within nine countries. This initiative involves up to 300 stakeholders in each country taking part in participatory seminars, during which the UNESCO framework is used to review the national situation regarding inclusion and equity in education. All of these debates are systematically recorded and analysed to guide future initiativesSee:
