The Glencoe Project has been shortlisted for Times Higher Education award for Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Glencoe Project, co-directed by Gareth Beale, Michael Given, Derek Alexander, Lizzie Robertson, Nicole Smith, and Eddie Stewart, has been shortlisted for the 2024 Times Higher Education Awards.
The project, shortlisted for Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, brings together researchers, professionals, students, and volunteers to find out more about the fascinating archaeology and history of Glencoe in Scotland. The Glencoe Project is a collaboration between the University of Glasgow (School of Humanities and School of Education) and the National Trust for Scotland.
Researchers have been working collaboratively with students and local cultural heritage organisations on creative responses to the landscape and environs of Glencoe in order to share stories about the past and our relationship with it.
Undergraduate student, Lucy Ankers, discovered the Glencoe Hoard as part of the 2023 field season and the media coverage for this was global. The award celebrates this exciting discovery and the work currently being undertaken to research into the coins and their story.
