Conference celebrates 10 years of 'Into Headship'

Taking place as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration, the Celebrating Headship event also marked the 10th year of the 'Into Headship' programme
Educators from across Scotland came together this week for the Celebrating Headship conference, to mark 10 years of the 'Into Headship' programme.
Into Headship is a professional, GTCS-accredited programme designed for aspiring school principals and school leaders in Scotland to enable them to attain the Standard for Headship.
Professor Margery McMahon welcomed delegates before Gillian Hamilton, interim chief executive of Education Scotland, delivered the keynote address.
School of Education Headteacher in Residence Alison Mitchell, alongside Dr Julie Harvie and Dr Michalis Constantinides, then delivered a summary of the current research ongoing as part of the Future of Headship programme.
The afternoon saw delegates enjoying a round-table discussion on the topic of The Successful Headteacher/Principal. Panelists Gillian Hamilton and Alison Mitchell were joined by Karen McAlaney, headteacher at Hillhead High School, Glasgow, Jacqueline Morley from GTCS, and Dr Gavin Murphy, Assistant Professor, School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. The event concluded with final remarks from University Vice Principal Professor Sara Carter.
